That Finishers Feeling
On the 13th of July I officially handed in my PhD thesis!

After a false start the day before with no-one in the office to accept my thesis publication, I finally managed to find someone to take it off my hands on the Friday.
With a small group of colleagues and friends (most of my lab-mates were sadly absent due to holidays and fieldwork) I made the long and treacherous journey from the Biology building on upper campus to the postgraduate office on lower campus. Alas, it was not meant to be. Still with the heavy burden (literally, that thesis weighed a lot) of my thesis in my arms we drowned my sorrows with lots of carbs and a well-earned G&T. However I was not to be deterred. I got up early the next morning to make my way to campus and submit first thing. And what a feeling!

I owe a massive thanks to everyone in my lab for all their help and moral support over the years, especially my amazing supervisor Tracey. It was a huge relief to hand in, but I've hardly had a second to take a deep breath and soak it in, with a new semester starting and work to be done to pay the bills.
I'm not sure yet what the future holds for me, hopefully a postdoc in a wonderful institution working on a fun and interesting system. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the next big adventure. And of course waiting with bated breath for those much anticipated examiner's marks.
Until then, I'll leave you with this quote that seems all too relevant right now.
"The finish line is just the beginning of a whole new race"
